Tailgating Policies
Laws and San Diego City Ordinances Applying to Qualcomm Stadium Parking Lots
Qualcomm Stadium is owned and operated by the City of San Diego. Many rules that only apply to the Qualcomm Stadium parking lots are included in San Diego Municipal Code 59.0502. A few notable policies and rules to know and understand:
- Tailgating is allowed within the confines of an individual parking space. This encompasses either immediately in front of the vehicle or the rear of the parked vehicle. Tailgaters who interfere or take up multiple parking spaces and refuse to remove their items have been known to be cited by the San Diego Police Department.
- No glass bottles, drinking glasses, glass cups, glass jars, glass bowls, etc. If it is made of glass and you bring it to Qualcomm Stadium, the San Diego police officers on site will issues a citation on the spot with no prior warning.
- No throwing, discharging, launching or spilling any solid object, including footballs, baseballs, frisbees and other such devices. This means no playing catch in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot.
- No kegs allowed unless a keg permit and proof of liability insurance has been obtained by the Stadium Manager. Tailgaters can apply for a keg permit by calling (619) 641-3100.
- Post-game tailgating is limited to two hours after the conclusion of the game. All cars must vacate the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot within a two hour window. Overnight parking is prohibited unless a special permit has been requested and granted.
- No pets or animals allowed. Exceptions are made for service animals assisting disabled persons such as the vision or hearing impaired.
- No explosives, fireworks, stink bombs or other substance which are potentially physically harmful or otherwise irritating, offensive, repugnant or disgusting to the eyes or sense of smell.
Grilling
Charcoal and gas grills are allowed at Qualcomm Stadium. Fireproof cement bins for hot coals disposal are located in various locations throughout the parking lot sections.
Restrooms
Portable restrooms are located in various locations throughout the parking lot sections. Most portable restrooms are placed next to a light pole. (Tip: Portable restrooms in the RV section and the inner-ring typically have shorter lines because RV tailgaters tend to use their restrooms inside their RVs. Many who park in the inner-ring do not tailgate and tend to arrive closer to kick-off.)
Recycling
Qualcomm Stadium offers recycling bins for aluminum and plastic. These bins are typically located outside the stadium entrance/exit gates and are not located throughout the parking lot areas. Because glass is banned at Qualcomm Stadium there are no glass recycling containers in these areas.
Stadium Information
Stadium Gates Open
There are 11 accessible entrance gates for all guests entering the stadium. Gates A, C, D, E, F, G, J, L, O1, O2, and P open two hours prior to kickoff. Gates B and H open three hours prior to kickoff and are exclusive entrances for Luxury Seating ticket holders.
Security Search & Pat Down
All items and persons are subject to inspection upon entering the venue. Persons with prohibited items may be denied entry to the facility. To provide additional safety and security in the venue, guests will be asked to submit to a voluntary pat down procedure. Failure to submit to these inspection procedures will result in being denied entry to Qualcomm Stadium.
Security stations and entrance pat down areas are staffed by a private security company. They adhere to a strict policy of male security staff members are only allowed to pat down male ticket holders. Female security staffers will pat down only female ticket holders.
All bags, purses, backpacks, diaper bags, etc. are subject to inspection and prohibited items may be confiscated. Food in a small plastic bag and factory-sealed plastic water bottles 1/2 liter, 17 oz. or less (limit two per person) are allowed into Qualcomm Stadium. Bottles, cans, coolers, backpacks and bags larger than 12"x12"x12" are prohibited from entering the stadium. Select gates at Qualcomm Stadium are reserved as "express" and are for fans without bags or purses needing inspection.

Alcohol Policy
Beer, wine and liquor are available for sale inside Qualcomm Stadium. Alcohol sales begin from the time the gates open and continue until the end of the third quarter for San Diego Chargers games. Exceptions do apply. In particular, alcohol sales are terminated after half-time at Chargers home games when they play the Oakland Raiders. An individual must be 21 years of age to buy alcoholic beverages and proof of age is required for everyone. There is a two-drink limit per order during the first half of the game. After the third quarter begins, it is a one-drink limit per transaction. No alcohol will be sold in the fourth quarter. Alcohol may not be brought into the stadium or taken out of the stadium.
Water Fountains
Water fountains are located near each restroom.
Smoking
Qualcomm Stadium is a completely smoke free environment. Smoking is only permitted on the Plaza Level at Gates E, O1 and O2. Violators may be ejected or cited by the San Diego Police Department.
Obstructed View Seating
Seats located on Field Level Sections 1 - 10 and Sections 31-41 have seats with an obstructed view. In those sections, rows 1 - 10 are considered obstructed view seats because players, equipment, television cameras, etc. will obstruct a fan's view during portions of the game.
Sun/Shade
The north side of the stadium is considered to be the sunny side of Qualcomm Stadium. The north side is also the visiting team's sideline. This side of Qualcomm Stadium can get extremely hot in the early portion of the football season because the sun is hitting this side directly. The South side is the Chargers sideline and is typically in the shade by halftime for a 1 pm kick-off.
Re-Entry Policy
Once a fan has entered Qualcomm Stadium with a valid ticket, he or she will not be allowed re-entry once they exit the stadium.
Lost & Found

Flags are permitted, but they must not be attached to poles or sticks. Management reserves the right to confiscate signs that do not meet the above requirements.
