General Overview

You Can Tailgate at UNI!
It is a misperception that it is illegal to tailgate at UNI football games, however there are rules and regulations that must be followed. The tailgating rules are made and enforced by UNI Police. Tailgating is becoming a huge part of college football at UNI, and it gives our fans a unique atmosphere to enjoy before our games. UNI Athletics would like to sell out every home football game in the UNI-Dome, we want to have our parking lots packed because each game creates an atmosphere and energy level that leads up to kickoff and through the game. The UNI football team only has between five and seven home games per year, which means there are only a few opportunities to take advantage of the pre-party prior to UNI football games.

Tailgating Areas
The new west lot of the UNI-Dome and a portion of the south art lot are reserved for members of the Panther Scholarship Club and the WRC metered lot is assigned to media. All other parking lots (north lot and south art overflow) are first come, first serve and are open for individuals wanting to come and tailgate.

Tailgating Policies

Policy
All tailgating activities can start four hours prior to game time, but must stop 15 minutes before kick-off. Also activities are not permitted to resume at any time during the game and can only continue for one hour afterwards. This is one of the major differences between tailgating that occurs at UNI and that which occurs at other universities. Tailgates are allowed to have up to 25 people, but if the number exceeds this amount, the group must register with the athletic facilities office ((319) 273-3603) and pay a refundable $100 deposit. Drinking of alcoholic beverages is permitted, but we would like to remind students to drink responsibly and clean up after themselves. If you are over 21 and have minors at your party, you could be subject of a charge of contributing to a minor. Other rules to keep in mind are that kegs, bottles and open fires are prohibited.

Stadium Information

UNI-Dome
The UNI-Dome, built in 1976, combines the features of a field house, football stadium and large auditorium. Panther football, men's basketball, and track teams call this home. The "Dome", one of the state's most recognized landmarks, will seat 16,400 football fans, 10,000-20,000 for basketball, and can accommodate nearly 25,000 people for concerts. The roar of large crowds under the permanent steel roof has helped the Panther Football team record a 145-36-1 in the temperature controlled facility. Because of the vast openness of the UNI-Dome for basketball games, it makes it difficult for many visiting teams to find the hoop. The "Dome" hosted 22,797 fans in 1990 when the Panthers beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 77-74.

One Mile Radius

McLeod Center
The new $23 million McLeod Center, officially opened November 18, 2006 when the UNI Volleyball team played host to Bradley and won 3-0 and became the 2006 MVC regular season champions. UNI's first true sports arena features just under 7,000 seats and is home to Panther Basketball, Wrestling and Volleyball. The UNI Men's Basketball team hosted their first game in the facility on November 19th versus Wisconsin-Milwaukee (won 69-58), the Panther Women's Basketball squad hosted Iowa State (lost 80-74 OT) on Monday, November 20th, and wrestling hosted Iowa (lost 18-15) on Tuesday, November 21st.
