General Overview

Tailgating generally starts as soon as the lots open. If you want your pick of parking spots it is a good idea to get to the lot as early as possible. In general, the crowd is pretty laid back and just looking to have a good time. Opposing fans generally have to walk past Terrapin tailgaters on the way to the stadium. For the most part, good natured taunting occurs on both sides as game time approaches. Police presence is higher for rivalry games and potential upsets.

Tailgating Policies

All parking lots open six (6) hours prior to kick-off. You may not grill with an open flame when tailgating in parking garages. However you may if in other lots. Approximately 2.5 hours before kick-off, join Testudo, the Spirit Squad, and Marching Band in welcoming the football team to Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium at Terp Alley, which runs from the top of Field House Drive to the steps leading to the Gossett Football Team house on the south side of Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

Food and Drink

R.J. Bentley's in downtown College Park is generally the most popular spot for alumni before and after the game. Many of the other bars tend to be student oriented.

Lodging

The Greenbelt Marriott is about 5 miles from campus and has very nice rooms. Particularly if you are able to stay at the Concierge level.

Local Attractions

Washington, D.C. is only about 5 miles from College Park. In fact, you can see the Capitol from the upper level seats at Byrd Stadium. Baltimore and the Inner Harbor are only about 30 minutes away. Annapolis is also about 30 minutes as well.
